Recently eBay, Evernote, Spotify, Wordpress moved to GCP because of these reasons.

Evernote tweeted :

1. “Your Data is Yours.”

2. “Your Data is Protected.”

3. “Your Data is Portable.”

Google Cloud Platform | Private Global Fiber Network + Tiered Network

Google Cloud Platform: Compute Engine: Disadvantages

1. Late entry to IAAS Market.

2. Choices of Programming language unlike AWS. Few JavaScript APIs are not supported.

Google Cloud Platform | Cloud Storage Service

  • Regional Storage is used where the data is locally accessed, frequently.

  • Multi-Regional Storage is used where the data is geographically reductant and  frequently accessed.

  • Near-Line is highly durable, fast and accessed only once a month. This is generally used for backup logs etc.

  • Cold-Line is also highly durable, fast but is used when the data is accessed only once in a year. This is generally used for disaster recovery etc.

Microsoft Azure | Cloud Storage Services

Hot Access Tier is used where the data is active, i.e the read and write functions are expected to perform frequently. This is generally used where data that is used for processing

Cold Access Tier is used for short-term recovery, where the data is stored, but not viewed anymore but can be accessed anytime needed. This is also used where large amount of data are stored in a cost-effective way while more data are gathered for final processing.

Archival Access Tier is used where the data are needed to be stored as Archives and backups. Large amount of data that needed to be stored for future reference.

AWS | Cloud Storage Services

Amazon S3 Standard is used where the data is accessed frequently. It offers highly durable and available data storage.

Amazon S3 Standard-Infrequent Access (S3 Standard-IA) is used where data is accessed less frequent but the, when required, can be accessed rapidly. This service provides high performance for low cost per GB thus making it Ideal for long-term storages like backups and Disaster Recovery.

Amazon S3 One Zone-Infrequent Access is also used where the data is accessed infrequently but can be accessed rapidly, This service has less availability thus costing 20% less than S3 Standard-IA services and the retrieval charges are also less. It's a good option for storing second copies of on-premise data or re-creatable data.

Amazon Glacier (Archive) a secure low, durable and extremely low-cost storage services used for archivals. This is used for low cost, variable retrieval requirements.
