Google Recreates G Suite to Conquer Limelight from Microsoft
G Suite Business bundle has been updated and reconstructed in the most extensive way for progressing efforts to steal business from Microsoft’s dominant Office suite.
Google revealed on 25th April, 2018, their first Gmail redesign since 2013, capping what was an expensive overhaul in two years of making to adopt security and offline functionalities as well as improve resemblance to Microsoft Outlook.
G Suite Business bundle has been updated and reconstructed in the most extensive way for progressing efforts to steal business from Microsoft’s dominant Office suite. Previously, G Suite had added instant messaging and spreadsheet features.
With Gmail, Google reported that it has unified the 3 dueling systems for message synchronization across all devices, redesigned email storage databases and upgraded the computers supported by the service. That transformation to Google’s self-developed Tensor processing chips facilitates smart assistant features like “suggested replies” to text messages and “nudges” to respond back to forgotten or overlooked emails.
Google declined to reveal their costs incurred with the recent redesigning. But parent Alphabet stated on Monday that the “first quarter capital expenditures nearly tripled year-over-year to $7.3 billion.”
Chief Financial Officer Ruth Porat told the reporters that half of the expenses resulted from hardware purchases to support the expanding implementation of Machine Learning (ML), which illustrates automated programming that can among other things, predict and identify spam and also which email users would find it most important.
Security and smarts
Google’s Bank reported that the overhaul was necessary mainly to provide offline access to up to 90 days for emails users who turn on the features. These changes also meet another top demand of business executives, that is, message expiration.
Users who enable a “confidential” option when sending an email can time limit its accessibility to recipients and also ask them to enter a One Time Passcode (OTP) sent to their mobile phones to read and verify it.
The new setting also doesn’t override corporate email retention policies or present new difficulties to law enforcement authorities.
“Nudges” and a higher bar for new email notifications rounded out Google’s modified sales pitch. The company has estimated that “nudges will lead 8 percent of business users each week to remember to follow-up on something important.”
The new Gmail interface will begin to roll out to consumer Gmail users and a limited number of G Suite customers in the coming weeks. To access it, you need to enable New Gmail Early Adopter Program from the admin console.
