Microsoft Defender :-

Defender for Microsoft 365 is a cloud-based email filtering antivirus service that helps protect your mailbox against unknown and foreign malware, harmful viruses and threats by providing robust zero-day protection. It also includes features to safeguard your mailbox from harmful and suspicious links in real time.

Every Microsoft 365 subscription comes with security features. The goals and actions that we can take depend on the focus of these different subscriptions. In Microsoft 365 protection, there are three main security plans:

Three Plans are mentioned below-:

  1. Exchange Online Protection (EOP)
  2. Defender for Microsoft 365 Plan 1
  3. Defender for Microsoft 365 Plan 2

Exchange Online Protection is the root of all these security services. EOP is present in all the subscriptions where Exchange Online mailboxes can be found and all the security products mentioned here are Cloud based.

The Features of the Plans are broadly listed below -

Let us make an architect thinking of each piece as an individual layer of security, each with a security emphasis.

These individual layers of security cumulatively can detect, protect, investigate and respond depending upon the breach, towards the common goal of security management.

EOP is the core of MS365 Security as Defender MS365 Plan 1 contains EOP in it whereas Defender for MS365 P2 contains P1 and EOP. The structure is cumulative and that's why, when configuring this product, we should start with EOP and work up to Defender for Microsoft 365.

Defender for MS365 plans have an edge over EOP, as EOP threat management can be difficult to tell at first glance.

The potential of each of the services (plans) are different when it comes to:

  •         Preventing and detecting threats
  •         Investigating
  •         Responding

1. Exchange Online Plan

2. Defender for Microsoft 365 Plan 1

 3. Defender for Microsoft 365 Plan 2

Conclusion:

Hence we can conclude that Defender Plans 1 and 2 have a real edge over Exchange Online Protection Plan. But, on the contrary we cannot ignore the fact that the core of these two advanced Defender Plans is EOP only. Considering all these facts, we can conclude that all these three security plans are together contributing to the security compliance of Microsoft 365 and thus making this fantastic productivity tool as one of the top-notch powerful collaborative platforms in this current scenario.
